Personality Hojo is an ass arrogant but brilliant man with a near-obsessive passion for biology and all things related to it. While he seems only to tolerate the school system and the students themselves, it seems he holds onto the job purely for the shameless free reign of lab equipment and the freedom to talk to others about it.
He is a teacher prone to favouritism. He is more tolerant of those who take him seriously, respect him and the work he teaches. It's almost unnerving, the difference made. He has a tendency, when discovering a bright student, to talk to them offhandedly, but there is something about it that almost makes it seem as though he's trying to feel out something.
For the most part, Hojo is calm and collected, though he communicates most things with snarkiness dry amusement. He's not without strong emotion, but he keeps those emotions in careful check; he's not impulsive or particularly sincere unless he feels it is particularly necessary, or he has something to gain from his honesty. When he does get excited, he can be manic and dangerous - but he keeps that shut tight behind closed doors.
There is something a little off about him. He does have a tendency to speak to himself in harsh murmurs when he thinks there are no others around, and he spends an unnerving amount of time in the classroom after the students have all left.

History Professor Hojo was born to Asian immigrant parents, both of whom worked in the medical field. Somewhat distant and always expecting the best from their son, it was natural that Hojo strived to please them. At first it was in the hopes of gaining affection, and then it was for his own pride, and then it was for the sheer love of science. His grades reflected his hard work; he won a scholarship at a prestigious University and sailed through to the top of his class. He is at Masters level, and there is talk of a PhD.
While his working background is something known only to his superior the Dean, rumour has it that he used to work for the US government in a very prestigious position, but retired from it for some reason or another. He never mentions his work there, and while some might say that that's proof enough that it's merely a rumour, it doesn't explain the twenty year gap in his history.
Hojo has been a faculty member at Evergrove for 15 years, which is fairly surprising given his general contempt of students and teaching.
... Or perhaps not surprising at all given his general contempt of students and teaching. One can go either way on that.
